A practical homeowner entrance

Start with the problem, not the code.

BCA workhead names are written for procurement. This guide helps you find the likely category, then inspect the source facts yourself.

What do you need done?

A registration is a useful check—not a recommendation. It does not tell you whether a contractor is available, suitable for your exact home, fairly priced or consistently good at its work.

Before appointing anyone

  1. Confirm the company name and UEN match the quotation and invoice.
  2. Check that the registration scope is relevant to the proposed work.
  3. Ask for a written scope, exclusions, schedule, payment stages and warranty terms.
  4. Verify any licences or permits specifically required for the work; a CRS listing may not be the only requirement.
  5. Compare more than one properly itemised quotation.

Not sure which category fits?

Some projects span several workheads. A full renovation, for example, can involve general building, interior finishing, electrical and plumbing contractors. Browse the complete workhead guide or search by a company you already know.
